Town Farm Superintendent

Superintendent (also called Warden, or Superintendent of the Almshouse) of the Town Farm, Billerica's poor farm, where the town housed and employed its poor and aged residents and lodged tramps. The post was filled by appointment of the Overseers of the Poor and later the Board of Public Welfare, and was usually held by a married couple, the husband as superintendent and the wife as matron. The farm was known as the Almshouse around 1895-1908, the Home Farm in the 1920s, and the Town Infirmary from the late 1920s. The Town Infirmary was sold on April 7, 1945.
